What is Rolled Ice Cream?

According to Forbes, the people who make this ice-cream in the streets of Thailand, Malaysian and Cambodian cities can have a finished product in just 2 minutes.
They make these by pouring sweet milk on an extremely cold surface that resembles a pizza pan. They mixed the milk usually with the toppings using two spatulas, and when the base is frozen, it is spin thinly across the surface. Then they use one spatula to scrape the ice-cream, and they get the magnificent rolls that are put in a cup and topped with chocolate sauce, whipped cream or fresh fruit.

Can I make rolled ice cream at home?
If you go to Thailand or Philippines, you must try this ice cream, but until you save some cash, you can make this at home. Ice Cream Rolls is the YouTube channel that will help you make this in your kitchen, but we have also written everything you need for the dessert, below. Of course, watching someone chopping and stretching the ice cream before your eyes is much more satisfying, but this should do.
• 3 tablespoons whole milk
• ¼ cup heavy cream
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• a pinch of salt
• a mix-in (sprinkles, brownies, Oreo cookies, or something else you love)
• 9” metal skillet
• 2 paint scraper
Step 1 – Ice Cream Base
Use a large metal skillet and combine milk, heavy cream, sugar and salt. With a heat-resistant rubber spatula, mix the ingredients together and once everything is mixed, put the skillet on the stove over high heat. Keep stirring so that the sugar doesn’t burn on the bottom of the pan and continue stirring until the mixture comes to a boil. Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool.
Step 2 – Add toppings
We have already said that you can add a variety of toppings and for starters, we recommend Oreo cookies. Put them in the cool base and chop the cookies with paint scrapers until they are completely crumbled. Mix everything together.
Step 3 – Freezing time
Place the skillet in the fridge for four hours. Make sure that the ice cream is extra frozen because otherwise, you won’t be able to scrape it into rolls. Even though you are impatient, don’t take it out of the fridge after three or three and a half hours. Wait for the mixture to freeze completely.
Step 4 – Freeze Paint Scrapers and your bowl
If you skip this step, the ice cream will not be the way you wanted it. Put the bowl in which you plan to serve the ice cream in the fridge together with pain scrapers for 15 minutes at least. If you don’t freeze the bowl or the scrapers, the rolls will melt away quicker than you want them to.
Step 5 – Roll, Roll, Roll
The most satisfying part of this recipe is to create rolls. Do it as fast as possible and place the rolls in the bowl. You can garnish the ice cream with whipped cream, chocolate topping and a few Oreo cookies you have left.
Ice cream rolls are not that easy to make as it seems at first. But if you follow these steps and act quickly, you should be fine. Maybe the first time they will not be like the one street vendors make, but you will improve with practice. Enjoy your ice cream rolls – a sensational Thai dessert!
