SEMI: Wafer Shipments Flat in 2012, to Rise in 2013, 2014
SEMI this week released its annual silicon shipment forecast for the semiconductor industry that shows polished and epitaxial silicon shipments totaling 8,901 million square inches in 2012, 9,400 million square inches in 2013, and 9,965 million square inches in 2014.
Total wafer shipments are expected to remain below the all-time high set in 2010 this year but reach record levels in 2013 and 2014.
Denny McGuirk, president and CEO of SEMI said in a statement, “In spite of heightened economic uncertainty, silicon shipments for the first half of 2012 were very promising. We expect 2012 silicon shipments to remain essentially flat when compared to 2011 and increase in 2013 and 2014.”
