SEMI Gives Bob Graham Award to Hutcheson

G. Dan Hutcheson, CEO and chairman of market research firm VLSI Research Inc, was awarded the Bob Graham Award during the SEMI Industry Strategy Symposium 2012, being held this week in Half Moon Bay, Calif.

The SEMI award is named in honor of the late Bob Graham, who was part of the founding team of Intel and who helped establish industry-leading companies Applied Materials and Novellus Systems.

“Dan exemplifies the marketing values that the Bob Graham Award celebrates. He has provided research and analytical advice to many leaders in the industry. His involvement in the industry — spanning research, consulting, newsletters, videos, conferences, and an internet forum — distinguish him as a unique and outstanding marketing leader. His efforts inform and educate industry executives while promoting the semiconductor industry to the outside world,” said Denny McGuirk, president and CEO of SEMI.

SEMI said many leading firms in the industry rely upon VLSI’s research services, databases, and consulting services to plan and guide their strategic investments. “His email newsletter, The Chip Insider, contains a mix of industry insider facts, forecasts, market opportunities and threats, as well as industry debates among recipients. His book, Maxims of Tech, chronicles how our industry’s leaders have innovated — providing key business lessons,” SEMI said.

The Bob Graham Award was established to honor individuals for the creation and/or implementation of marketing programs. Eligible candidates are nominated by their industry peers and are selected by an award committee comprised of members of the Sales and Marketing Executive Council of SEMI (SMECS), which includes past recipients of the Bob Graham Award. Previous recipients include: Art Zafiropoulo (2000), Jim Healy and Barry Rapozo (2001), Jerry Hutcheson and Ed Segal (2002), Steve “Shigeru” Nakayama (2003), Edward Braun (2004), Archie Hwang (2005), Aubrey C. (Bill) Tobey (2006.), Richard Dyck (2007), Richard Hong (2008), Peter Hanley (2009), Martin Van Den Brink (2010) and Franz Janker (2011).
